Childhood
Alicia Vikander grew up in a large, blended family. Her mother, Maria Fahl-Vikander, was a popular actress at Gothenburg theater who married psychiatrist Svante Vikander—who already had five children from a previous marriage. The marriage didn't last, ending when little Alicia was just five months old. But her father stayed in her life. She would visit him every other week.

Acting Career
Alicia broke into Swedish television at just 13, launching her career hosting teen shows. Simultaneously, the young dancer was performing in musicals at the Gothenburg Opera. After filming the drama "Min balsamerade mor" ("My Embalmed Mother") in 2002 and the series "En decemberdröm" ("December Dream") in 2005, her film career paused for two years.
